This error typically occurs when an active X has not installed correctly.
Possible causes of this failure include:
- Conflict with yahoo toolbar (and possibly google toolbar and similar toolbars)
- Conflict with Lexmark toolbar
- Incorrect Active X settings in Internet Explorer – See solution 1
- Conflict with other Active X controls (including Skype) – See solution 2
SOLUTION 1:
Curing this problem involves removal of all existing Next Application Active X components and reinstallation as follows:
Step 1 – Removing the active X components
This can be done by opening IE7 tools -> internet options
->browsing history settings ->view objects.
It is possible that the above location will not permit direct removal of these components due to file permissions. An alternative is to use Hijack this to remove the components.
Step 2 – Remove add-on toolbars
using the windows add/remove programs facility
Step 3 – Remove Elink Add in components
using the windows add/remove programs facility
Step 4 – Restart Windows
This is necessary to ensure clearing of residual link problems.
Step 5 – Review all IE7 ActiveX settings
Step 6 – Reinstall Elink
SOLUTION 2:
We’ll have to disable the Active X controls that are in conflict with the Active X controls of eLink.
The Skype Active X controls definitely conflict with eLink and will need to be disabled.
You can find the Active X controls through the options of your Internet Explorer – Programs tab – Manage Add-ons button. In this list (if the problem is caused by the Skype Active X controls) you’ll have to disable the 2 Active X of Skype (you don’t need to uninstall them).
Once this is done, restart your internet explorer and the problem will be solved.
Note: If Skype is not causing the problem, you’ll have to test step by step all the other Active X controls by disabling them one by one.
